Executive Committee

Charge

The Executive Committee is the primary governing body in HathiTrust. It bears final responsibility for the activities and functions of the HathiTrust operations and for the partnership, as well as for the long-term integrity and accessibility of deposited materials. The Executive Committee is guided by the Strategic Advisory Board. The Executive Committee:

  • Defines the mission, goals, and objectives of HathiTrust and guides the partnership in fulfilling them
  • Ensures the alignment of HathiTrust’s mission, goals and objectives with those of its partner institutions
  • Reviews recommendations of the Strategic Advisory Board and makes final decisions regarding policy, repository development, and planning initiatives
  • Manages HathiTrust’s budget and finances
  • Determines strategic directions for HathiTrust
  • Demonstrates leadership among partner institutions and in the cultural heritage and higher learning sectors in community-wide efforts to ensure the long-term preservation and availability the scholarly record
  • Communicates about HathiTrust, including about its value, activities, plans, and strategic initiatives to partners, potential partners, and other relevant communities
  • Oversees HathiTrust operations through the appointment of an Executive Director
  • In coordination with the Executive Director, establishes operational working groups with a set duration (e.g., for a specific task) or ongoing responsibility
  • Oversees the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the HathiTrust Research Center, should a HathiTrust Research Center be established.

The Executive Committee meets monthly and conducts business in between.

Membership/Composition/Term:

The Executive Committee is composed of senior officers from the founding HathiTrust institutions: two members each from Indiana University, the University of California and the University of Michigan, one member representing the remainder of the CIC, and the Executive Director. The chair of the Strategic Advisory Board participates on the Executive Committee ex officio.  Each member is appointed for the duration of the first five-year period of HathiTrust (i.e., through 2012).  Subsequent governance will be determined through the Constitutional Convention, to be held in March 2011.

Meeting Minutes and Schedule
