The libraries that created HathiTrust recognized the value in collaborating on shared solutions to common challenges and we continue to do so today. The size and nature of HathiTrust’s collection make it an important platform for collaborative activities. As a result of this extraordinary collective collection, we’re able to offer member libraries services and programs to ensure preservation of the scholarly record, enhance user access, and enable collection management on an individual library level and at scale.

Providing digital access for users with print disabilities is essential to our mission. Designated staff in your library and disability services office may access everything in HathiTrust for the purposes of providing materials to your students, faculty, and staff with print disabilities.

Cooperative action at work! This award-winning program addresses the common challenge of identifying copyright status for items in the collection. Since 2008, reviewers from dozens of institutions have manually examined more than 1 million items in the HathiTrust collection.

Through our shared infrastructure, your library can contribute digitized content and avoid the costs of hosting your own preservation environment. There is no minimum or maximum contribution and no additional fees.

When your library closes unexpectedly, your academic community may continue to obtain lawful access to your collection through the HathiTrust Digital Library for items that correspond to physical books on your shelves.

As the foundation for all our services and programs, the HathiTrust Digital Library collection encompasses 18+ million volumes broadly representing titles from more than 60 North American and international research libraries.

Dig deeper into the collection! HTRC supports both new and advanced Digital Humanities scholars with text analytics tools that can be used by even novice researchers — no coding required! — with an option for advanced computing.

Through special access, MQIP supports members that contribute content in enhancing their own catalogs – the source records for all HathiTrust items. Eliminating the need for physical items improves efficiency and enables large-scale projects such as addressing harmful metadata content.

By linking the preservation of print and digital collections, this program reduces costs of collection management and brings together national/continental collective management of collections. The collaboration ensures that all members have access to the more than 5.5 million print monographs retained by our 60+ participating libraries.

Since 2016, HathiTrust has coordinated collective action to develop the largest independent collection of digitized and preserved U.S. Federal Documents from dozens of U.S. agencies to bolster both democracy and scholarship.
